Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. - Hebrews 13:8
I hate change. I always have, and I feel I always will. Any time there is change in my life, it brings along all sorts of feelings I don’t usually like to experience: anxiety, stress, the uncertainty of not knowing, and a multitude of others. Change makes me feel uneasy. Whatever it is in my life—whether it be moving, switching jobs, using a different laundry detergent—change is hard. We live in a world of constant change. Cultures, mindsets, laws, opinions, and so on can change daily. The world’s changes can also bring those same feelings of anxiety, stress, and discomfort. It is obvious that we need something constant, consistent, and non-changing to cling onto to counter the ever-changing world.
The fact is Jesus has always been the same. From before creation to now and on through eternity, he is who he is and will always be. For me then, a person who dislikes change, knowing the consistency of Jesus is something I can lean into. The feelings I have about change are not good. The hope then is that the stability I do find brings good feelings along with it. The consistency of Jesus’ love, care, and grace encourages me. He is all knowing, all powerful, and everywhere I am—and that is comforting. The thought of something always being what is expected is great and takes away any uncertainty. I wake up each day not knowing what the world might throw my way, but I do know God will be there with me through it all. His unchanging presence allows me to absorb the changes around me. I hate change, but I hate it less when I have Jesus by my side.
This week, no matter what the world brings your way, no matter what changes you might have to go through, remember we serve a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His never-changing ways give us peace of mind and a solid hope to cling onto when the uncertainty of this world seems too much to bear. Hold onto Jesus because his constancy is enough to help you get through anything.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help us this week to hold onto you. Your unconditional love, your consistent encouragement, and your endless grace never change. We hope in times of change, in times of uncertainty, we can look to you to get us through. Help us as we navigate this ever-changing world and to rely on your consistency.
We love you!! Amen.
